Lone Star Cels
last modified: Friday, June 21, 2013 (3:44:20 PM)
South Texas is not exactly the mecca of cel collectors, but there's gotta be more than just me, right? Heading to San Japan in San Antonio in mid-August (unfortunately I missed A-Kon in Dallas) and I was wondering if I had any Lone Star cel-mates down here? I really enjoy the niche of cel collecting, each cel is personal in some way, so the hobby by its nature is personal and sort of solitary. But still, it's nice to know there are others who enjoy and appreciate a little paint and plastic as much I do. I live on the border of Mexico so I'd be hard pressed to find another collector within 150 miles, but I figured why not ask? Anybody else feel like the only cel collector in their state/city/principality? Not saying that it's a bad thing, just another little unique trait of the hobby. : ) ~Carl "GoalieZero"

Hi Carl. I know there are a few more of us down here, but the community just hasn''t been that active as of late.

Do you share your collection with your family and friends? That''s a great way to get other people into cel collecting/art appreciation. :)

Oh definitely, I even go so far as getting gift cels to start other friends'' collections. I know a lot of professional artists and animators who love cels and animation art in general. A lot of times they just need one cel to get them hooked. I''m guessing I''m about 5-10 years late to the cel community in its prime with the advent of CGI, hence the less active community. I''ve bought a cel from a collector in Dallas on eBay, but other than that I haven''t met or heard of any other collectors down here. Guess we''ll see who pops up ^^

It''s really cool to be able to show people animation art. They usually love it.

And if it''s any consolation, the creator of this site (Jason) is a cel collector from Austin. This is his gallery on RS: http://plastic.rubberslug.com/gallery/home.asp
