New kitty and need kitty experts for help
last modified: Tuesday, June 23, 2009 (10:57:28 PM)
A couple weeks ago a small tiny stray kitty decided to live in our back yard. So, we have decided to take her in home.... We tried once a couple days ago but we failed because we did not really prepared (she did not have a kitty litter for herself :( ) She started hissing to our kitties and it was pretty horrible.... So we let her out and we thought we would see how it goes. Then today we have decided to take her in again... Now we have all prepared and we separated her from our kitties.... It seems that it is working out so far....

But a problem is that we are going to Japan from July 2nd to 13th and even though our friends are taking care of our kitties I am a bit worried about her.... (her name is Iris ;) ) So we have been thinking that she needs to be sprayed so I might ask a vet to take care of her while we are in Japan but I am not sure....

Do you have any good suggestions?

scroll down to the over 4 month section.
And Yes it would be a good idea to get the new one checked out by a vet to be tested for Feline Lukemia & FIV. Fixing should also be done even if you decide to leave the cat as an outside one so she does not have a bunch of feral kittens. It''s not a kind life for them.

Kitty should be fixed. I also wouldn''t worry about the kitten hissing at the other cats. This is normal behavior. It''s the way they work out their hierarchy. I would only prevent any sort of serious fighting. Hissing and batting at each other is okay. Cuddling with one of your cats and then cuddling with her is a good strategy to minimize the amount of time it''ll take for them to get used to each other.

Experience: 24 years of cat ownership; dozens and dozens of cats.

Here is some update..... We took her to a vet yesterday and they found a micro-tip inside her O_o ok it says she belongs to a shelter really far away from our place.... Our vet called them but they were closed yesterday so she said she would call them today and try to find out if she escaped from the shelter or she was adopted and for some reason she got lost..... But at least she was sprayed and also seems that she got all vaccinated.

Did you find the original owner?

Yes, and actually she was belonging to a local shelter O_o It seems that a hoster care person just let her go because she cannot take care of her.... Anyway now she has the permanent home here ^_^
