"Cel collecting sucks!" yeah?, Why don't you Blog about it? last modified: Tuesday, September 26, 2006 (11:50:50 AM) I'm just venting here, no action or solution necessary. I’m sure this isn’t the first time a rant like this has been posted, so I’m guessing I may have company with my misery…
It maybe obvious to some that I only collect from one animated series, and that show is now 15 years old with only 7 episodes. Given that, I am aware that cels will be more scarce. So, why is it, in the past 8-12 months, I can NOT land a single Y!J decent cel auction? Granted, I have to use a proxy service, which bids a 10-8 hours before closing, which is huge window to get out bid. This hasn't been a problem in the past, so why now? I know that about 10% of the folks here even know about this show, and less have seen it! And I haven’t seen any of these showing up here? (which might be a good thing) So what’s going on? I know the demand hasn’t really changed cuz dozens of average cels have been on the block for months now without a single bid. I’m not insinuating that just cuz I collect only one show, that I’m entitled to win every auction, but some consideration would be nice (I’ll even take some pity at this point). Ugh, I guess that’s the curse of collecting only one show. If I had a more diverse collection, I could drown my sorrows by buying a cel from some other show. I do collect more than just cels from this show, but according to the rules here, I can not display them, if I could, it may take the sting out of missing the opportunity to add to my gallery... I don''t see why you couldn''t add cels from other shows in your gallery. Just put them in sections of their own. I don''t think anyone would give you crap about the additional cels not being from Giant Robo. <.<
Thanks. I would add cels from other shows if I had/want them. But I''m very committed to GR and I do have other stuff besides cels in my GR collection and that''s what I was wishing to add to my gallery.
I would suggest checking out another Deputy service like rinkya in which you can place the bids yourself when you wish thus closing the snipe window. The fees may be more but the extra price may be worth your sanity. I''m not sure where you get the idea that you can''t display your other cels unless there is some kind of problem with them.
Rinkya account...I may look into that, thanks. As for the ''posting other cels'' issue. It''s not that I think I''m forbidden to post other cels from other shows in my gallery...I don''t have any nor do I think I will collect any. But, I do have other GR related items that don''t fit too well into the ''production art only'' category. They are rare and most were ''not for sale'' to the public...
I would suggest ShoppingMallJapan as a deputy service. Very fast, very friendly and always willing to help. As far as collecting other shows, that''s entirely up to you. Personally, I can understand your desire to only want to collect GB. When I first started collecting, I wanted nothing BUT SM. I told myself I wouldn''t collect anything else. But after two years I dwindled and started adding AMG to my list. It''s your tastes and if you want to just collect GB that''s your decision. :) I like your collection the way it is, you have a lot of nice cels from a show I''ve not seen before. However don''t worry I''m sure the competition will go back to the way it was and you''ll be able to add more lovlies once again. However I do recommend using SMJ for deputy needs, that way you can go in and bid near the last few minutes. Good luck!
The ones that ended recently were sold at Mandarake for about 840YEN. You can go now and prob find yourself 50 cels from 210YEN to 840YEN. The winner got robbed. HAHAHA
aw, i totally feel your pain... i collect from series where really nice cels are definitely hard to come by. especially with the last unicorn cels... they are as rare as real unicorns... sometimes i go a few years without buying one cel. but then, all of a sudden, dozens of nice cels pop up (like right now, and my wallet is feeling the pain >_< )... so feel free to vent!! but i would love to see the GR things that aren''t in your gallery?? what is it that you cant display?

A kindred collector... I''m sorry, you''re fishing from an even smaller pool than I am. Makes my tantrum seem petty ;) Thanks for listening and sharing. As for the rest of my GR collection...it''s nothing special really, see below. Roy - Thanks. JWR also pointed out the Photo Album section...I''m looking in to it as well as other options. The other GR goodies are mostly "1st privilege" items like phone cards, posters, ect. I also have model kits and figures...oh, and a shizuma drive! (for real)
Shopping Mall Japan is great. You can bid whenever you want, even mere seconds before an auction ends, without the stress of having to contact a company, say, 24 hours before an auction ends, and then not even be able to snipe or up your proxy bid. Lately, there have been a ton of bidders for Pokemon cels (well, the ones I want, anyway). I take that back. It''s ONE person who''s been hogging all the cels. I couldn''t have just ONE of them? It''s really starting to upset me, and I''m hoping this hogger will run out of money soon :x Luckily I have other shows to "fall back on" that have little or no competition, so at least I can be happy that I was able to at least get SOMETHING I wanted, and it softens the blow. |
