OK...well not perfect...but I'm downloading over 100 pictures right now!
I laid out all of my cels before the Sacramento meet and took digital pics of everything I couldn't remember scanning...so that should mean I have pics of everything now! (except those five I've ALREADY FOUND that slipped through the cracks).
Regardless, my collection is in need of help. Some need to be rescued from me by other people...and those that stay need to be mothered in a nice cel book instead of stacked on my bookshelves. I should take pics of these poor things. My three books are full...and still I have stacks (Oversized stack, BKG stack, regular stack).
I am just having sooo much fun *playing* with my collection. Only...it's grown so large it's getting hard to keep organized.
I'd like to have a cel book dedicated to: Fencer Minerva 1 and Fencer Minerva 2, Fencer Minerva 3-5, Armitage, Windaria and Apocolypse Zero and Robot Carnival.
That's four Itoya's right there!...but then...do I keep all the oversized pan cels in a seperate Itoya? and what about sketches? I'd like to keep all the sketches in a seperate book...but then how do I keep track of what goes with which cel? Do I put sticky-notes or stickers on the pages? What about when I re-organize? Should I bag each sketch seperate and then use stickers on the bags? That SOUNDS good.
So many choices and decisions! I'd like to have an immaculate and easy to navigate collection...but the time involved is immense! Not to mention the expense of new cel bags in at least three different sizes...(do I tape them closed? leave them open? tape close but cut open a corner to breather?). What about BKGS? Do I bag them seperate from the cels and tape the two bags together?
And...what about multi-layer cels? Do you bag each layer seperately? What do YOU DO?
So many questions..>I hope you guys can post some feedback to answer them!
THANKS ahead of time!

Hmmm ... well, I''m not sure how much help this will be ... but ... I keep my sketches (Saiyuki, Nightwalker, Shaman King) in a big garment box --- the kind that is acid free and lignin free. It makes it hard to browse through my collection by hand, but I have all my favorites scanned and displayed online, anyhow. I keep my backgrounds in a second garment box. I keep all of the backgrounds bagged, too, inside the box. As for sketches that go with my cels, I have very large cel bags into which I placed all the matching sketches --- one or two bags per series, depending on how many cels and sketches I have for each show. I recently reorganized all my cels into new Itoya books, and grouped them by series, and even with my fairly small collection, it took a long time! And, actually, I could probably use two or three more books. LOL
I think, though, when you are trying to decide on a way to organize, the most important thing is to find a method that works and makes sense for you. Any way you do it, it will be a huge undertaking. But, if you are happy with the results in the end, it''ll be worth it! Good luck!! ^_^

I usually stick my sketches behind the cel--not in the same bag, though. It would also probably be best if you put all of the layers that aren''t stuck into separate bags--that way, you don''t run the risk of them becoming misalined and then stuck. XP
As for bagging sketches, I haven''t done that yet, but from what I''ve heard the paper used has acid in it, and it is more likely to yellow if you don''t keep it in a bag--of course, it''ll probably take decades to yellow, but that''s beside the point.
Umm, as far as bg''s go, don''t keep the cel directly on the bg. Paint from the bg will eventually leak onto the cel, damaging the bg and possibly the cel as well. It won''t do too much to the cel unless there is a lot of white on it, though. I know because I bought my Mouse cel already damaged that way.
From what I''ve heard, large Itoyas tend to be a bit flimsy, especially if you don''t have many cels in them. Someone on Beta had a solution for that . . . but I can''t remember what it was. XD I''ll take a look and let you know if I find out. ;)

Hi Fetish,
I''d just like to add in an obtruse comment: Your Fencer Minerva collection is really something else and I was wondering if you''ve been to YJ? Lately, I''ve been seeing more FM cels - just a quick note passed under the door - I''ll leave as quietly as I entered.

Hiya Fetish,
The fastest way to keep your cels in order is to use two cel books, One for the cels and one for the drawings just keep them in the same order in each book page for page that is, number the books A-1 A-2, B-1 B-2 ect, Get yourself some sticker labels and put them on the outside of each page and use pencil to write the names so you can change them if you move or sell the cel so you don''t have to change the labels.
Put all of them in cel bags, Cels and drawings and don''t cut holes in the bags the cels do not need to breath, I have some cels that have been in sealed bags for over 20 years and they are just fine , The bag should be closed off from the air and dust this is what keeps the drawings and cels from turning yellow over time, The moist air that gets to the drawings activates the acid in the paper and this is what causes the paper to turn yellow over time.
Buy the cel bags with gum type sealer it is acid free or use framers tape or what is called two sided matte tape it is also acid free.
As for Multi-layer cels put each cel in it''s own bag and then put them in the book together in the same page of your book if you can get them apart that is, If not just put them in the same bag.
Cels with backgrounds should have both the cel and background in own bags and then put them in the book page together to keep them from sticking over time and to keep the background dust from scratching your cels but do keep them together and label the page as cel setup for future ref.
I don''t know how many pan cels you have if the number is low use one large size cel book and put the cel on one page and the drawing on the facing page to keep them together or if the number is high use two books for storage.
I know buying lots of cel books is costly but this is the easy way to store them so you know what goes with what and to keep track of all the cels you have.
Buying more cel books is cheaper than losing some of your cels to damage or moist air or some of the other

things that can happen to them over time, If you plan on keeping them for a long time this is the best way to store them for long term storage and to keep them in the best shape you can, This is how Disney stores there older cels in there storerooms to save them for the future,The very old nitrate cels were the only cels that needed vents in the bags to let the gases off but we are talking 60 plus year old cels not the newer ones.
Cel Books are black most of the time and suck up heat from light like a sponge so keep them out of any light if possible, At Disney they keep them in cabinets with big white towels over the tops of the books so dust can not get to the books over time and stain the cel book page edges.
Itoya makes inserts for the pages to keep them from bending, Bending the pages as you look though them is what causes the lines on the front of the cels to come off and can crack the paint also after some time,Its like bending a wire back and forth it will brake after bending it a few times, So stiffen your book pages to keep this from happening to your cels.
I hope this helps some and if I think of anything else I''ll come back and post it here for you to read.
