Anime and Family

I know that many of us here have this addiction that we so lovingly share with our families. As I have been an anime fan for a few years now, I have noticed how I've influenced my family.

Mom: Age 64
Likes cels. She was very interested in what they were after I bought one, and knows general information about them. Lived with me watching Toonami on the living room tv for a couple of years. Does not like anime or other animation.

Dad: Age 57
Generally clueless in the cel area. However, he liked every anime I showed to him. He was a fan of DBZ back when we watched it together. Went so far as to even watch the horrible quality movie fansubs I had back in the day. Likes animation in general, so anime wasn't a hard sell. He liked the 3rd Inuyasha movie, even though he hadn't seen any of the TV series. He would probably like BLEACH.

Kenneth (spouse): Age 30
He's been deployed since I started collecting, so he doesn't know a lot about them. He's a closet anime fan. He hasn't been honest with himself yet :). Has admitted to being a Gundam Wing fan. He likes the mecha, mostly. He even watched Gravitation and Nightwalker with me, although he didn't like Gravi. Likes other types of animation.

Joshua (son): Age 5
Really only likes Jubei-Chan. He's 5, so he hasn't had much exposure to anything else. He likes Sponge Bob, and older animation like Scooby Doo, Tom and Jerry, and Pink Panther.

Mikey (nephew): Age 15
Likes anime, but hasn't had a chance to see a lot. I don't see him very often, but when I do we're always watching something. Our favorite anime pasttimes are watching BLEACH (although he's only seen about 10 eps.), and watching Saint Seiya while making fun of it (no offence to SS fans, we love the show too!)

And that is how we are. I don't know if any of my other family members like anime. If they do, their closet fans.

Having family members liking or alteast understanding what you like in anime is really great! My mother loves to watch Inu Yasha with me and has seen SM and DBZ... she knows of my cel collecting and even likes to see them when I get them! My other family members aren''t quite sure what to make of it all though I DID get my sister into SM for a little bit there and currently my little cousin (age 9) is into Pokemon and starting to get interested in Inu Yasha and Fruits Basket. I might even take him to a con sometime when he gets into it a little bit more! You''re lucky that your entire family likes anime too not to many people have that. It''s very special so I''m glad to hear that you appreciate it!

Okay, so I''m 21 and therefore, shouldn''t be into anything animated (or so says my family). Except for the Simpsons and Ren and Stimpy, as my dad said. So anime doesn''t run very well in my familia.
However, it''s exciting to see anime working its magic on some people I know, like my best friend, Sandra. I introduced her to YYH and Scrapped Princess. She in turn, got me hooked on IY.
My sister Gentry is also a new convert to anime. She comes home from school and asks me all the time if I got anything new in the mail. She''s on top of things.
Glad to see your family''s involved. Keep it up - they''ll come around sooner or later!!!

^That''s the way my dad is, JMK. My sisters love it, though. My brother is really into Yugioh, and not really willing to try anything else. My littlest brother was into Ranma for a while, but there''s only so many episodes of that series that you can show to a seven-year-old. Unfortunately, his fav character is Happosai. 0.o
