Entry 2
last modified: Monday, March 07, 2005 (9:30:52 PM)
If you’re bored and have nothing to do, I’m looking for feedback.
Please take a moment to comment on this entry.

What I’d like to find out:

1. Is the overall theme of the layout/presentation a good match with my collection?

2. Do the graphics look bad?

3. Does anything look out of place?

4. Do you have any problems navigating this site?
(I know, I currently have 116 different sections, but I think I’d make it worse if I added more cels to the miscellaneous section)

5. Is anyone offended by any of my graphics?

6. Would you like to see any of the cels rescanned?

7. Does this page take too long to load?

8. What do you like best about the presentation?

9. What do you hate about the presentation?

I’m using the term graphics in the above questions because I’m referring to the images I’ve created, not the cel scans. I’m only providing these questions, so, you know what I’d like to know, but feel free to pay no attention to them.

I know many collectors that keep online galleries feel that a person’s website is fine as long as the owner feels it satisfies their own aesthetic tastes. I agree with them. Still, as long as I have a website up that everyone can look at, I’d like to at least know what people like or dislike about it.

Most of the time when I receive email from the feedback link, they’re people asking me for something. Sometimes when they ask me for something they include a comment about the presentation of the site. Usually it’s something nice, but if a person is asking me for something, I’d sort of expect them to write something nice.

I know I have rating icons at the bottom of the page, but I’d like to know what you like or dislike about my overall design.

Hiya Chris, you know I love your artwork and the site design has a great theme but I can come up with some constuctive criticism on some of the pics. I appreciate RS is limited in what layouts you can go for but one positive thing I noticed was the use of a long vertical graphic along the left side of the main page. That''s great because it extends the length of your series links and fits very well.
In general I was a little disappointed with the quality of the images- they''re optimized too much which makes them appear blurred. I''d rather wait longer for the page to load and get blown away with the visual clarity of each image than have it compromise on this quality.
A great aspect of your thumbs is the miniature border on the top left corner- it sets your images apart from other galleries and reinforces your industrial/futuristic style.
Navigating the site is fine, you have a lot of series but that can''t be helped! I''m glad you chose to show them all to us! Please make sure you update with your latest acquisitions, especially since you''ve outbid me on some tasty Guyver cels *heh heh* Seriously, I enjoy seeing galleries on RS that focus on some of the series I enjoy rather than all the ''Bishie'' ones I see too much of.
Were you thinking of overhauling your design? If you were to start from scratch, I wondering if the robot images could be updated? The feel is very early-mid 90''s, which isn''t a bad thing, but a modern look might make the gallery appear more vibrant and fresh. This is just my opinion which you may not agree with, that''s cool ^__^
All the best, Krafty

Okay, I didn''t look at every page in the gallery, so take the following comments with a grain of salt:

1. I like the overall high-tech look; the black-gray-green-red color scheme is nice. I wonder if your sub-page banner might fit in a little better if the cel images were in black and white; as it is, they''re more colorful than any of your other static page elements.

2. I have to agree with the comment above; the images do look blurry, to the point where I can''t really tell what the image in the bottom banner depicts. I also wouldn''t mind waiting a bit longer for higher-quality images.

3. I didn''t notice anything out of place.

4. The miscellaneous section has 13 pages, which take a long time to go through; it might help to put more images on each page. Also, it''s a minor point, but the followed link color looks very similar to the regular link color, which made it hard to see where I''d already been.

5. I wasn''t offended by anything I saw.

6. The cels from The Land Before Time might look better rescanned.

7. The page loads quickly for me, but then I do have a cable modem.

8. The overall look is very unified, from banners to thumbnail borders.

9. I''d most recommend improving the image quality.

Hope that helps!
