Signs you're moving towards cel retirement
last modified: Thursday, May 24, 2007 (10:16:22 AM)
$250 for a cel sounds as expensive as it did when you first got into collecting.

Your YJ daily checklist has gone down from ten series checks to three.

You only check one dealer site a day, and it's not Keep Track.

Selling really isn't that painful anymore.

You rarely think about visiting cel forums anymore, when it used to be part of your morning routine.

Dont forget the "dont stay up to watch what little auctions I piss on" anymore
and the classic "look at your cels and realize... damn that coulda gone towards a 52 inch flat screen HDTV >_<"

lol!

*huggles Keri-chan*

No problemo hon! I think most of the old betaa crew is starting down the same path. Must be a phase right? lol! we are just ''with-it'' ne? ^_~ but all kidding aside, i think the lack of quality cels/sketches, with increasing prices and competition not to mention flourish of asshooles in the hobby is really leaving a bad taste in alot of folks'' mouths.
I know it has for me!

Hand in there Keri-chan ^_^ theres no rule that says you have to leave for good or buy X amount of cels, you could just be a very seasoned collector now where you just add 1 primo cel a yr.

You let a package sit at the post office over the weekend instead of running across town to pick it up.

It takes you weeks to scan in something you got, and months to take the time to upload it.

The only time you get excited about a cel coming is when you have paid well over a grand. -_-

I can think of so many others, but we have been over this before. Oh, and why the hell aren''t you at work today.....!!?!

You know I fit this catagory. I love shampoo''s "that cel would make a nice big tv". That''s so what I''m thinking. Gotta upgrade from a 20", you know. ~_^ And for me, I''d change one of yours to "you only check dealer sites once a week". And here''s one more - sad but true.

You think by selling a cel or two you''d get more room in your house to put things. @_@

Other signs you are ready to move on and/or enter semi or full cel retirement include:
- going to cons no longer holds any fascination
- wading through cel books at cons or stores just isn''t a priority anymore
- dwindling the collection down to the essentials is something you''d PREFER to do and possess the CASH instead of acquiring more cels.
- Getting into heated often times inane discussions over cels, the hobby, lurkers, and hoarders just is NOT worth the effort.
- taking a real vacation internationally holds considerably more fascination than just buying a cel, genga or other piece of anime art.
- you no longer change your cel bags religiously every year.

In the end I think it is no surprise that people move on and out of cel collecting entirely. Cannot hold this against anyone since financial priorities change and as some of us become married, purchase a home, business, attempt to raise a family, help aging parents... cels really lose their importance and living life to the fullest is a paramount priority.

Whatever you go I hope you''re happy and financially healthy. Cheers!

Huh. And, I thought it was just me feeling this way. Yeah, I agree wholeheartedly with the comments posted before, because I can see this in my own collecting habits more and more. I keep thinking: "If I stopped altogether, it wouldn''t be a big deal." (To me, that is ... as in I would still have a collection I love.) I think one of the final things that really got me to thinking about stepping away from the hobby was all the junk happening in the community, particularly negative stuff directed specifically at me. That kind of thing really takes the fun out of it. (yeah, I know ... I''m a weenie. >.O)

i dont proclaim to be part of ''the loop'', nor am i in visual range of said loop for that matter, but i cant think of anything negitive about you. and anyboby that does, should remove their head from their ass.

Oh I could never completely depart from this hobby. I was an addict for far too long. My plan is to make my collecting habits more focused on a few series. Perhaps this way I can purchase the higher quality cels that come may way instead of always being broke because I buy everything I see. ^_^

Oh and Gonzai, I took a mental health day today. Or I had anal glaucoma. Take your pick.

I''m with Rob, TC. Those people are ass-hats. Not even worth the nanoseconds of your fretting. *hugs*

I have to say I agree with many of those statements. It happens to the best of us. ~_^

No, I''m not quitting, but can say I only have a few series I really watch and my experience with rilezu cels have swayed me to be very selective in that area.

Yeah. Of course, I''m off in another direction, spending the money from cels on dolls instead. ~_^
I''m at the point where there''s just not that much that appeals to me anymore.
I''m even starting to get picky about my Ichigo purchases. I know, hard to tell. XD But true.
Of course, having my favorite source dry up helped a whole lot in sucking that mind set more towards other things.

Asshats. Definitely asshats, P-chan. <.<
The Real People out here know you''re the best. ^__^

I understand most of what you''re feeling, I''m not there by a long shot, but I understand. Take a break. Enjoy having money in the bank. Enjoy Italy. When you want to buy a cel, enjoy that too. Do what ya gotta do. We''ll still be here.

Can understand how you feel as I''ve been there and came back. I think the reason is cel collecting is very intense, with checking updates and forum every day. Not to mention the financial burden. With other things coming up in your life, it''s no wonder your priorities will shift. For me, I took a hiatus when I graduated and found a job.

Main thing is that you do what you feel like doing. You can always admire your current collection without having to constantly add to it. :) As for the nasty ppl, they are everywhere. (I can remember in the old days when there were some serious flame wars >.<) Juz ignore them or shoot them back, they can''t hurt you if you don''t let them. Oh.. and flaunt your cels in their faces ;P
