I don't get it part 2
last modified: Monday, September 04, 2006 (10:56:54 PM)
First, I'd like to direct everyone's attention to this post: http://www.anime-beta.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=19279

I stayed away from the computer all weekend (and man that was harder than I thought it would be), and then this morning I decided to check out Midori's website to see if she had updated anything new over the weekend. She had. She had updated a seller beware page, very similar to what Nida posted on Beta. Words cannot describe the rage I experienced when I read Midori's page. If anybody deals with Midori, they know that once you do a lot of business with her, she begins to trust you and often ships your cels before she sends out an invoice, because she knows that you will pay like the good little trustworthy person that you are. Obviously she can't trust people anymore, because some people are low-lives such as this person and won't pay once they receive the goods.

Midori's announcement both saddened me and sickened me. It saddens me that someone as wonderful as Midori was taken advantage of in this manner. She is one of the nicest people I have met in this community, and she helps so many people with their collections. How someone could do this to her just makes me sad. Maybe she shouldn't have trusted him and shipped his cels before he paid, but how sad is it that she couldn't trust a frequent customer? What makes it worse is that now Midori might stop trusting the rest of us that are good customers. Another example of one jerkwad ruining it for everyone else.

It sickens me that someone actually believes that he has no responsibility whatsoever to pay her for cels that HE bought. He couldn't do this at a store without getting arrested for shoplifting. Soooo, just because this was done over the internet and the items were shipped before payment means that you don't have to pay for them? What world does he live in where you don't have to pay for the goods you buy? Can I visit there? I'll start buying all of my cels there. I'd love to buy cels and sketches and have no responsibility to pay for them. He even admits that he knows that it isn't right to not have paid her in full. Damn skippy! It's more than that, it's downright blatant THEFT. If you didn't want the cels, why didn't you send them back to her? Didn't anyone teach you that keeping things you didn't pay for is stealing? Sending partial payments doesn't absolve you of anything. It only further highlights that you know not paying her is wrong. If you really believed that you don't owe anything, then why did you pay anything at all? To make yourself feel less guilty about stealing from Midori?

Do people in other hobbies do this, or is this another instance of anonymity on the internet providing a gateway to be a completely awful person?

Whatever reasoning this person has, he's now higher on my oh-my-God-I-hate-you-list than people that back out of deals. He has no excuse for not paying Midori for these cels. She provided him a service and she deserves compensation, and that compensation should be CASH, not cels that Midori does not want that may or may not be valued at $200. And then to actually add these unpaid cels to your online gallery like you OWN them??? I guess he doesn't know that possession doesn't equal ownership. I'm not even going to talk about the fact that he's trying to sell these things that he doesn't own... it makes the blood boil too much. Also, who are these people that he mentioned in his e-mail who said that he shouldn't have to pay for these cels? More ass-hats? (To quote Ms. Poe.) Nothing he can say will change my opinion that he has no excuse and is fully responsible to pay for these cels. I will just add him to my seller beware and buyer beware lists (since if I can't trust him as a buyer, why should I trust him as a seller?), and I urge that the trustworthy people of RS do the same. We have enough problems around here. Let's do something to squash one of them.

This whole situation reminds me A LOT of what happened on Animanga, back in the day. I''m repressing her name at the moment, but a really bitchy girl posted a story about how she purchased her first cel with some money that she took out of a wallet she found lying in the street. She returned the wallet, but didn''t see a problem with taking all the money inside.

It saddens me every time I realize there are multiple people like that in the world. :(

I just recently heard about this and I agree it''s a really sad situation. Anyone who''s ever worked with Midori knows that she is just the sweetest person, and always willing to work things out with her customers. That someone would take advantage of her trust is just apalling. This particular buyer''s reaction is just horrible, instead of taking responsibility and trying to find a solution (I can understand if you have trouble paying, but why didn''t he mail the items back?!) he turns the blame on the person who trusted him enough to mail the items without full payment. I can safetly say that I won''t be doing any future business with this person, and I doubt anyone else who hears what Midori has to say will either. He''s not only lost the trust of the person he wronged but of future buyers and sellers.

Once my main site gets back up and reconstructed he will be number one on my blacklist. What he pulled with Midori it total crap. I''m still shocked that someone like that honestly thinks he isn''t in the wrong here. Like you said Baylor....you couldn''t get away with something like that at a store. If you want to cancel the transaction then send the items back. If he''s reading this.....you are a fool. A true idiot! I hope Shuichi chews you up and spits you out like the scum you are.

i think that when we are dealing online, no matter who it is, we should do it with caution. what happened to midori is horrible, and i hope those of us who are trustworthy will continue to support one another when these things happen. thats what i love so much about a collecting-community like ours.

wELCOME cONSUMER

Thanks for blogging about this. I almost did as well. It''s best everyone knows about this wretched situation. This is the benefit of having a community. We can work together and share important information. I doubt anyone will ever work with this guy or speak to him again. What a dirtbag.

If you steal, then you get arrested. I don''t see why this situation should be treated any differently.

And the story Miss Z posted is just as horrible. Ugh...

I just worked my way through the email exchanges. Mr. Y is full of it - if you get something in the mail you DIDN''T order, that''s a far different thing than getting something you definitely did order. If he wanted to cancel the order (but hadn''t, and, according to the emails had a 2-part order, in fact), then his duty was to send the cels and sketches back to the seller. It''s absurd to say he won''t pay the balance because he won''t be having any more business with her. And what a slap in the face to put those cels and sketches up in his gallery!

Geez, this isn''t a case of a page of address stickers sent to guilt you into contributing into a charity you never heard of. This is a BIG purchase. And to say he''s sending just enough money to hope she doesn''t lose any money, although she doesn''t make a profit on those items! What a set of brass clangers....

Looks like the MSCQ gallery is closed. It''s not in the list and even a link or typed addy doesn''t bring it up. Voluntarily? Or hopefully, somebody sat on the Shut button --

What a complete and utter jerk! His logic defies...logic! How he could treat such a kind and trusting soul as Midori like that just doesn''t make sense. Well Mr Y''s name is mud, his full name, address, & email are all public knowledge. So one question: Why doesn''t he stop being a butt-head and send Midori back her property?

Leah

All right kids. Listen up.
Lesson 1: Stealing is wrong.
Lesson 2: Even if you can get away with it, Stealing is wrong.
Lesson 3: Partial stealing is still stealing, and Stealing is wrong.
Lesson 4: Midori is a very nice person. Stop being an Ass Hat to Midori. And Stealing is wrong.

Hey Leah... is stealing wrong?

That''s the other girl that stole the money out of the wallet, posted nude pics of herself on the forum, and was really the first asshat of the cel community. A lot of n00bs always criticized me and others for treating her like dirt...Well...dig up her past and she''s as bad or worse than this new guy.

Luv ya Midori. Hopefully you''ll get your property back...but this guy''s probaby packed up ship and dipped out. Nothing you can really do about transactions overseas between countires as far as getting the law involved...Gomen.

Geez . . . I read about this earlier this morning, but it still boggles the mind that someone could be such a jerk. *sigh*

Then to go and tell her that it''s her own fault? WTF?! (that''s a poetry term, btw :P)

This is really sad and although I don''t know Midori I can empathize with this situation. In every hobby there are horror stories such as this and it saddens me each time. I know it is small comfort but what goes around will come around. I hope Midori gets her property or at least the monies she is owed back soon. Good luck and thanks for blogging about this, I would''ve never known b/c I cannot get into AB. *sigh*

That really sucks! I feel terrible that such a wonderful person like Midori had this happen to her. I hope something works out for her - money or cels.

But there''s more to it on a selfish note for me. I feel very relieved it didn''t happen to me . . . this time anyway. This blacklisted person was attempting to bid on one of my recent auctions. They asked me a question during the auctions to which I replied twice to. They responded back to me asking the exact same question. At this point, I was annoyed and had decided to cancel their bid if they bid. Something felt wrong. Now, I see why.

That and the 2 Sasuke repros they stole I almost asked Midori for since I saw her update minutes after she did it. ~_^
