6 Month Update- taking stock
last modified: Monday, October 02, 2006 (9:56:41 AM)
Well, well... seems as though I don't have much to say since my last blog was 6 months ago!
My aim is to keep this weblog for anime art info only but I've been lagging *lazy*, I've even got a MySpace page and even LiveJournal page for other things and don't update those much *lazy again*.

The Myspace page is for general and Music-related posts and I only joined up with LiveJournal to be part of a Cyber City OEDO community ^__^ In all this time I thought I was the only OEDO fan! j/k
It'll be good to chat with other fans who enjoy this 3-part OVA too.

It seems a little conceited writing inane "me me me" posts because I don't like to dwell on things, but rush through and don't stop to take account of what happened.
In the case of cels, I still look through YJ every day and Mandrake every few days so I suppose I do have enough ideas and themes to write about.

My fear is that since this is a public blog, I'll come across as a freakish otaku and when I say "I purchased this, and won this etc" it looks like I'm bragging and being arrogant.

I want to make it clear that I'm not like that, but will nonetheless try to maintain a list of artwork I've bought for my own reference. This could be important since most of it won't be scanned and displayed for years, if at all!!

Thanks to the folks who gave me feedback in the reent Open House sessions; the vast majority said I should write more blogs. I'll endevour to write here more often.

So, here's the skinny on the last 6 months:
1 Viper hanken still to pay for; Some Ninja Scroll cels on the way form Japan; Anime World Star have been sending me packages every month- this week's is a huge batch of G-Taste + Ikenie cels; Sold my Berserk prints; keep being hassled to post my Guyver artwork; running out of space to store artwork! [those sketch Cuts take too much room]

The last 2 weeks have been CRAZY. I'm receiving my Rinkya and SMJ packages, have 3 more YJ packages on the way and received my Mandarake package today by EMS. That's a quick service- took 2 days to arrive. This includes a Ninja Scroll cel of Jubei, Virus Buster serge settei, ProjectARMS OP Storyboard [colour copy].

Any tips on keeping on top of this influx of art? Preferably methods which require minimum effort ;)
I've got cels coming out of my ears, they're in literally 8 places within this room and it's looking untidy. I don't like mess :(

wELCOME cONSUMER

It''s nice to see you blogging! I''m glad the open house was able to encourage you in that way.

I enjoy reading your insights. You don''t come off as conceited or arrogant at all. It''s a blog, what else are you going to write about? :P Believe it or not, people enjoy very much peaking into others'' minds to see what''s going on. Learning more about your personal life, if you felt comfortable giving such details, would be interesting to the community. I think many people look at the blogs for that sort of connection. It''s a way to keep the community more of a "community," and not just a bunch of user names. It brings a human touch to the internet, if that''s entirely possible.

Whatever you choose to write about should be what you are confident and secure in discussing pubicly. Whatever that might be will not reflect poorly upon you at all. On the contrary, it will bring Mount Olympus one step closer to the readers ^_~ hehe

Enough of my bloated banter. Can''t wait to see your new goodies! =)

Heavens to Betsy, James!! What an influx of artwork! No wonder you feel like you have a mess... the sheer volume of what comes in would be almost impossible to keep on top of unless it was your full-time job! I have gotten exactly 3 packages in the last 6 months, and they are still sitting unscanned and uncataloged in my closet! So if you think YOU are lazy, please don''t tell me what you think I am!! heehee!

I agree with Toni that you certainly don''t come off sounding conceited, and that I do enjoy reading what people think about their art or their hobby or their life in general. So, Blog On, brother! ^__^

Just give me all your Gokudo cels. ^_^

Wait . . .

On second thought, maybe not. I''ve gotten enough Gokudo cels as presents as it is.

Hmmmm . . . I''ve never had *that* much stuff in all at once. When I get my deputy shipments in, sometimes it takes a little while to clear the air, but usually not *too* much time.

My suggestion? Rather than surfing for more stuff to buy, scan and upload the pretties you''ve got sitting around! :P Seriously, you could set a goal for yourself--five cels scanned and uploaded (or just fifteen scanned) for every one cel that you buy online. So, if you want an auction that has three cels in it, you''ve got to upload fifteen cels. Just a suggestion. It''ll make those cels you buy more worthwhile, too.

Congrats J on the goodies! Still to organize them, I recommend spreading the packages (not the contents though if you do not have space) into small piles based on what arrives first. IMO I open things as I receive them, it does help but at the sametime, I prefer shelves to spread out the cels in a very dark room. Ha ha. Silly? Maybe, but I do have a few book cases which are ideal for organizing and sorting which need to be rebagged, inventoried and stored.

Lastly you are not being conceited at least not in my eyes. I like to hear about everyones adventures and their aspirations beyond cels. Cheers!
