How to store really large cels/artwork?
last modified: Friday, December 08, 2006 (11:33:40 AM)
I've recently received two oversized original sketches and paintings (Gatchaman/Battle of the Planets and Batman: The Dark Knight) that are approximatley 15"x22" and 19"x13" each. Now seeing that they are both too oversized for my already big cel folder (My cel folders are able to accomodate pan cels up to 10.5"x 9") how do other RS members store some of their oversized cels or artwork for tips? Right now I have both wrapped in tissue paper under our bed until I can maybe get a plastic storage bin, kind of like the holiday bins you use to store your holiday decorations.

hi!
Itoya makes very large archival portfolio books that I use, the big ones come in 13X19 and 19X25...

Itoya makes an 18" x 25" folder. If you don''t want to spend money (they''re quite expensive, like $35 each)...then I suggest getting some heavy duty cardboard and making your own folder - that''s what I have done in the past.

I recently purchased an 18x25 folder due to one particular cel that is almost 2 feet in length.

The nice thing about the large one is that you can store(depending on the size) two cels per page. So, a 24 page book can hold 92 cels.

Storage bins would work fine too. You''re not really supposed to store art horizontally either. Vertical storage is ideal, especially if you have a lot of items (the weight ends up smooshing). I keep my portfolios on my desk, sitting up like books would on a shelf.

Hi, I use the really big rubbermaid storage bins for my cels. I just usually keep them in the original containers but sometimes throw out some and put the cels into one of the other boxes. This is pretty cheap storage plus it keeps the cels from dust and water damage.
